Furnace Treasures
Natural Furnace Formations:
These works incorporate furnace bricks and the materials that remain from the blowing process. I harvest these encrusted remains and use them as foundations. Many pieces are chemical formulas made to grow into rocks formations that were grown at high temperatures and then excavated from the kiln or furnace.
GROWING MY NATURAL FORMATIONS:
A sandscape erupts into a silica vessel that oozes ceramic glazes which fuse, melt, and crystallize. In the center, hot rocks fume under a glass lake and release salt gases that cause the liquid surface to swell into a sparkling dome. The finished work is a fossilized imprint of many processes that contains a living dimension.
